How Does Cloud Hosting Operate?

What is cloud website hosting in fact? The term 'cloud' seems to be quite modern in today's IT, World Wide Web and hosting lingo. Nevertheless, only a select few actually are familiar with what cloud hosting is. Probably it is a clever idea to inform yourself about cloud website hosting services. To make a quite long tale short, we will firstly let you in on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Website Hosting is Not Limited to a Remote Data Storage Exclusively.

1. Offering a remote data storage service, which involves one single disk storage tool for all clients, does not transform any particular web hosting supplier into a real cloud website hosting supplier.

The cPanel web hosting providers call the ability to furnish remote file storage services a cloud website hosting solution. Up until now there is nothing bad about the cloud terminology, but... we are talking about hosting solutions, not remote file storage services for private or business needs. There's constantly one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to dub a shared hosting solution, powered by a single-server hosting platform, just like cPanel, a "cloud website hosting" solution. That's because the remaining parts of the entire web hosting platform must be functioning in exactly the same manner - this does not relate only to the remote disk storage. The other services entailed in the entire hosting procedure also must be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's extremely hard. Very few web hosting distributors can actually do it.

2. It Entails Domains, Mail Accounts, Databases, File Transfer Protocols, Web Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud website hosting is not restricted to a remote data storage exclusively. We are talking about a web hosting service, serving many domains, websites, electronic mail accounts, etc., aren't we?

To call a web hosting service a "cloud website hosting" one calls for a lot more than furnishing simply remote file storage mounts (or possibly physical servers). The e-mail server(s) must be devoted solely to the e-mail connected services. Doing nothing else than these particular tasks. There might be just one or possibly a whole cluster of e-mail servers, based on the total server load produced. To have an authentic cloud website hosting service, the remote database servers should be working as one, irrespective of their actual quantity. Doing nothing different. The same goes for the users' hosting CPs, the FTP, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a true cloud website hosting supplier will support multiple server farm facility locations on multiple continents.

Here's an illustration of a Domain Name Server of a genuine cloud website hosting services provider:

dns1.pchelper.com

dns2.pchelper.com

If such a DNS is furnished by your web hosting company, it's not a guarantee that there is a cloud hosting environment in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you observe a Domain Name Server such as the one beneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud hosting service. This kind of Domain Name Server simply exhibits that the web hosting platform in use is one-single-server based. Maybe it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-server hosting platform and has a market share of more than ninety eight percent. In cPanel's case, one physical server takes care of all hosting services (web, electronic mail, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, CP(s), web site files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Definition of Cloud Website Hosting.

So, a cloud website hosting solution is not restricted just to a remote file storage service, as multiple hosting companies wish it was. Unfortunately for them, if that was the case, most of the file hosting providers would have been classified as cloud hosting ones long ago! They are not categorized as such, because they plainly provide file hosting solutions, not cloud web hosting solutions. The file hosting platform appears indeed very simple, when compared to the hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, as it's simply one simple fragment of the entire cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be discovered in the cloud web hosting platform: the web hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the not too distant future, probably a couple of new clouds we presently are not informed about will appear unexpectedly.
